Val Chmerkovskiyis sharing his pain.
On Wednesday, theDancing with the Starspro, 37, took toInstagramto reflect on a painful neck injury he suffered last year, alongside some photos taken while he was in the hospital.
Chmerkovskiy posted images of his X-rays, along with another of himself in a neck brace and hooked up to a drip. A voice behind the camera, appearing to be his wifeJenna Johnson, 29, said, “Okay, time to walk around!”
“Let’s do it,” the dancer replied, saying he’d have to take his drip off.

A further image showed Chmerkovskiy lying in the hospital bed, while another photo revealed a scar and bruising on the front of his neck. Among the carousel of videos and photos, Chmerkovskiy also shared a picture of himself cuddling his 13-month-old sonRome, along with getting some love from his dogs as he lay in bed in another sweet clip.
Chmerkovskiy showed off his dance moves in a different video, as well as posting an image of his shadow. “This time last year I went through some stuff,” he captioned the post.

At the time, Chmerkovskiy stayed quiet about the incident but did say he’d “almost lost” his “ability to move” in a March 2023post.

While sharing a message reflecting on his year, the dancer included videos from the hospital wearing his neck brace, despite not going into further detail.
“thank you friends and fans and family for the beautiful wishes. This last year I had a son and lost a grandfather. Felt better than ever and almost lost my ability to move,” he wrote at the time alongside a montage clip set toFrank Ocean’s track “Pink + White”.
A representative for Chmerkovskiy did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
