The guy in the clean flight case isBill Dana — a true American hero . Bill Dana was a fabled run pilot burner , a historical groundbreaker , a human beings whose brave work made the airplanes and spaceships we fly today possible — one of those very few guy made of the proper stuff from an era that is now completely decease . He died at age 83 this Wednesday .

I think that there ’s no manpower like Bill Dana any longer . Yes , there are examination pilots and many people who risk their lives all around the world every day , just like he did . soldier , fire-eater , policemen , Doctor of the Church and nurse in engagement areas mold in uttermost condition … all those people who put their life on the line so others could live . Heroes . All of them .

Bill started to make story from the very first 24-hour interval he started to bring at NASA , on October 1 , 1958 , the Clarence Shepard Day Jr. the space agency became operational . He make for there for 40 year , vanish anything they would tell apart him to fly . He flew the most beautiful and the most awesome and the most horrible and the most useless car . He pucker information and gave engineers crucial data that shape the way all our airplane and spacecraft are today .
He was the right gentleman at the right shoes and at the right fourth dimension , an era of experiment on the border of disaster like no other in the history of humankind . And then , when that era finished , he retired and celebrate working for NASA with no salary . They could n’t pay him due to “ budget simplification ” but he thought it was his duty to keep work till the remainder :

His long and illustrious calling at NASA ’s Armstrong Flight Research Center did not terminate when he retreat . He returned to Armstrong seven months subsequently as a contractile organ with Analytical Services and Materials , Inc. , to compose histories of various programs and to value lessons learned . During a full stop of budget reductions , this human race of integrity and accomplishment gave up his earnings and continue to work as a volunteer with the History Office . Over the course of his career , Dana log more than 8,000 hours in over 60 different aircraft from helicopters and sailplanes to the hypersonic X-15 .
