We all have it away that Japan is nutty about cellphones , having browsed the internet via mobiles since we were but gleams in 3 G ’s eye . But the phenomenon is about more than the web — it ’s about email .
NPR lately air out an interesting course of study exploring Japan ’s use of the cellphone . In it , Satoshi Tanaka , a cellphone content / portal guru , mentioned a middling fundamental difference of opinion between Japan and America regarding email :
When you say email to today ’s young people , they would never think of electronic mail you do on the computing machine . To them , cell phone email are emails . There are even some user who would say , oh , I did n’t know you could do email on a computer , too .

Even with the ascension of QWERTY smartphones , I think most of us view cell email as subaltern , or at least part of an important Libra the Balance with our computing equipment - ground e-mail . But face up with IT lockdown at the work , I could decidedly see cellphones becoming the principal source for both personal electronic mail and web . [ NPRandGetty ImagesThanks Ponies ! ]
