We ca n’t expect until our brains are hardwired into cybernests , so we can amply appreciate the hilariousness of SpaceCollective ’s guide to skepticism aboutthe uniqueness . My fave part : This example , excuse how “ utmost shit going down ” leads to The Future .
Even Singularity cultists will be glad with Sjef van Gaalen ’s write - up , which is fairly gentle and sticks to incredulity rather than out - and - out debunking . And it ’s probably unfeigned that floating purple heads in outer space are the future . We ’ve had hints of this for years now , from movie posters and comic account book , so nobody should be surprised .
Actually , my preferred part is where van Gaalen discussesRay Kurzweil‘s famous chart comparing computing major power with different types of animal brains :

Chaos gospeller & axe - wielding maniacBruce Sterlinghas a thing or two to say about this ( see TV below ) , admit me to rephrase :
1 . What the shit Ray ? How on the dot do you know an IBM PS/2 is as overbold as a nematode worm ? We do n’t even actually know what intelligence is , so this chart is kind of stupefied .
2 . Spiders , Lizards , Worms & Bacteria have all been around for millions of age already . Almost every electronic twist on your chart is out . Think about that , there ’s your future , all beat & bury .

At this point it seems like Bruce is poised for flawless victory , but then he makes a tough move and pull out his own chart . We all know that a chart for a chart give everyone world-weary , but I ’ll run this down very chop-chop .
Well worth checking out , not least because there are tons of links to let you adopt the discussion down the interminably recursive rabbit hollow . [ Space Collective ]
