But Batwoman frequently finds itself accrue into what I like to call the “ Canadian Torture Porn Trap . ” Weird I know . Canada is not a office known for its torture pornography ! Yet I frequently find myself watching display produced in Canada that are full of gamy and well - lit torturing . This is not Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead . This is a CW superhero show ! Yet there Mama Kane ’s head sit , very much removed from her soundbox and resting in the freezer of a liquidator .

I ’m sorry I ’ve gotten before of thing . You might be confused as to what I ’m talking about because you missed the sequence to watch the debate or vex about apandemicor tune into HBO an hour early because you could n’t think of whenWestworldstarts .
So to recap , Kate Kane has a sis , Beth ( who presently goes by Alice ) . The day of their deal squash racquet mitzvah they were in a railroad car accident . Batman manage to keep Kate but Beth and their female parent seemed to be killed . Except Beth manage to survive and was captured by August Cartwright , a mad plastic surgeon with a son named Mouse . Edmund Cartwright hold her captive and tortured her while also teach her how to remove citizenry ’s faces and apply them as masks that perfectly replicate the person . In the latest episode of Batwoman , Alice pull off to captivate Cartwright and left him tied up beneath the Bat - signal so she could go make unnecessary Mouse , who was recently recaptured by the evilness - doer .
intelligibly , if there is a person who deserves gaol it is Cartwright . But Kate prefer to take him to her bar and interview him about the slaying of Alice ’s doppelgänger ( a Beth who never went through the trauma Alice did and was basically amultiverse hiccough after the recent Crisis crossover ) . She also opts to call her dad so he can help her interrogate the guy wire . What quick becomes apparent is that Cartwright knew Alice would endeavor to rescue Mouse and has set a trap that will lead in Alice getting dosed with Scarecrow ’s fear toxin until she no longer has any kind of grasp of reality .

And because Batwoman gleefully embraces the torture porn any clip it does an Alice flashback , we get to larn what pall Alice the most in graphic and agonizing detail — it ’s her own mother .
But let ’s be clean , it is not because Alice and Kate ’s mother is a supervillain , or was even mean to her grow up . It ’s because Cartwright decollate her and stored her head in his deep-freeze with the plan to one day put her brass on his own atrocious female parent ’s body ( Cartwright ’s mama is play by Debra Mooney , and as always Mooney is exceptional in the theatrical role of a ballsy old broad who may or may not be malign ) . Alice , after a decade of torture at the hand of Cartwright and his female parent , discovers her mama ’s fountainhead . She promptly grabs the atomic number 8 tank Cartwright ’s mother need to live , knock off the valve , turns it into a flamethrower , and barbecues the old woman .
As if that was n’t bad enough , here ’s where thing got really mussy : When Cartwright evidence Kate the story about what happened — how he ’s preserve her mother ’s head and how the sight of it sent Alice into a murderous fugue United States Department of State — Kate goes into a fugue commonwealth of her own and chokes Cartwright to death .
While Batman has murder his fair share of citizenry in early comics , Elseworlds , and the occasional moving-picture show , it ’s not really a matter Bat - hoi polloi do . And in Kate ’s face , it completely shatters her , sending her out into an back street to stare wistfully at her ex ’s phone number . The episode terminate with Alice invite Kate to help her veil the body , so this distinctly is n’t going to be something that is quickly forgotten . But it certainly position Batwoman apart from her predecessor , Batman , and from the other CW superhero show . Too bad Ollie ’s dead , he could have in all probability cheer up her up with recountings of his many , many , many , many murder …

Debra Mooney played an awful person , but goodness she was fun in the role .
I ’m not really certain how I sense about Alice ’s salvation arc , but principally because she ’s such a substantial actress and so compelling it ’s kind of stealing the calcium light from Ruby Rose .
Rose in costume go along to be pretty lurch - perfect .
Mary , the effective non - doppelgänger baby , is very aware of who Kate is but very cool about it ( prize her boundaries and not taking it personallyunlike SOME people we sleep together ) .
Luke take more to do than hang out with Mary , but at least they ’re fun together .
Sophie come out to her mom last workweek and it went frightfully , so presumably she ’s engaging in some social distancing and increased ice emollient consumption .
