Tonight is the original of NBC TV series The Event , which is this season ’s most promising new skill fiction show . We ’ve watch the pilot , and here are four spoiler - devoid reason you should watch too .
1 . You want to see The X - Files crossed with The West Wing .
To be fair , The upshot run more toward the X - Files side than to the West Wing side . But it ’s a conspiracy show with tons of activeness , combined with a semi - realistic depiction of the White House . Which is to say , our conspiracy are run aground in power construction we acknowledge and be intimate , rather than woo - woo experimentation and shadowy cloak-and-dagger somethings . ( Not that I ’m pointing any fingers at any particular show that is now no longer on the air . ) In just the first episode we get to do it the President ( the awesome Blair Underwood ) , plus we get a glimpse of what happens to ordinary citizen gyp by political science coverups ! So retro and thrilling . There may be no Mulder and Scully , but that ’s kind of a good affair because . . .
2 . Laura Innes from ER plays a prison badass
What is her role ? Why is she emboss the President around ? Why is she in that glacial prison house facility ? Is she in charge of the prisoners ? Experimenting on them ? A little of both ? We do n’t know , and we do n’t care . All that count is that Innes is our favorite mega - tough , radical - smart TV badass , and as shortly as she take the air on screen , you ca n’t flake our eyes off of it .

3 . stiff potentiality for coolheaded aliens
As the trailers for the pilot excuse , there ’s a spooky , unexplainable “ case ” that happens right away . Actually , a couple of events come about but the chapiter - E Event has to do with mega - technology in the sky . Could it be unknown ? We wish that idea . specially if the aliens never do things like lay thousands of egg in a UFO swim pool or send e-mail . Seriously , though – the pilot does a gravid job ramping up the tenseness and leaving the causes for the “ issue ” widely open . in spades wide enough for some badly chilling foreigner to scuttle through .
4 . You need to fill your plot of land twist crackpipe now that Lost is over .
you’re able to already tell that The Event is going to deliver bizarro plot of ground twists . The more we learn in the pilot , the more questions we have . As Lost has proven , there ’s no dear way to get addicted to a show than by taste to follow its plot of ground down a trippy cony jam . As long as The Event can keep answering questions coherently – which producers promise they will – then I think this show could satisfy both your authorities cabal need and your “ holy crap WTF ” ask too . Plus , the acting is good and the characters are intriguing . I already need more .
