Photos are just theorize to be picture . They ’re not speculate to go corporeal , assemble and become something novel . The following ten entries tothis workweek ’s shot Challengestarted as photos and end as something inherently different .

Winner – PRESS

The timing on this challenge is preternatural ! I needed a logotype for my Bachelor of Engineering diploma work , that would represent an electronic photographer ( a word picture - taking golem ! ) . With that in nous , I had this melodic theme earlier on – to tog up a microchip as a retro photojournalist , with a camera , Stetson lid , and the “ PRESS ” slip . However , initially I plan to do it in GIMP , but since the challenge was declare , I decide to use this proficiency instead . It ’s * way * more fun this room , and the results are awesome ! Captured with a Nikon D3100 with the 18 - 105 mm lens system . Component pictures : ( My Dad ’s old photographic camera , the newspapers and a cat bowl to simulate a retro trice unit ) where necessitate in AUTO mode , the scope is a shot of Gottenborg , Sweden . These were publish on a Samsung color laser printer and put together with twofold - sided tape . The chip is literal . Final shot : 105 mm , f/5.6 , ISO 400 with bounced flash .

He Said he Wanted to be More Involved in My Art

I ’d been work on a 2′ by 3′ mixed metier house painting for about a calendar month and roll in the hay I wanted to use it in this challenge . I snap the middle of the painting and print it 5×7 . Then I taped it to my boyfriend ’s stomach as he lie on the painting and paint his skin to bridge over the gap between picture and sheet . By the time I finished painting , the sun had correct and it read every lamp in our murkily lit flat to gather enough light for the stab . I used my fixed 50 all the room undefended and attempt to stay as still as possible . Since I had the hiccough at the time it took about 30 shots to get one clear and in good order centered .

Nikon D70 , manual 50 mm , 1/30 , ISO 800 , f/1.4

Chloe the Cat

I created this image by impress and curve two separate photos of “ Chloe ” the cat . One is a close - up of her face , and the other one is her take the air around . To make it look more “ 3D ” , I made the Chloe paper ‘ dame ’ stand up using a small wooden pin and a gambling - doh Qaeda . I met Chloe this weekend while shoot some kinsperson portraits at a coworker ’s sign . While I was there , it was exonerated to me she did NOT care the dog she lives with … but in my imagination , she will still get him a treat for Christmas . This challenge was particularly fun because of the limitation of using Mixed Media ( so I spend a lot of clock time cutting , taping , glueing ( ? ) , and browsing on newspaper stores ) , however , recollective live photoshop . It ’s freak 2AM ! Canon T2i , 100 mm , f/2.8 .

Jarred

I did n’t know a lot about sundry media when I looked at this challenge , so I count around on the internet . I finally hit upon a picture by Mary Daniel Hobson that I liked , sport photographs in jars with mineral crude , and wanted to see if I could do it myself . So I took a couple painting around town , found a jar and some mineral oil , and , after some line , sweat , and tears , came up with a seemly guess . This was also my first clock time creating a macro photo studio box seat , which really helped the shot , although my workforce did n’t relish it . Nikon D5100 , Nikon AF - S NIKKOR 18 - 55 millimetre genus Lens at 48 mm , ISO 6400 at f/7.1 .

Crow and Berries – Collage Mosaic

This challenge was right up my alley – I have sex to mosaic and I had some consolidated trash factor without a plan . When I saw this challenge , I decided to expend the fused trash crow and feather in this musical composition . I took picture of some live oak tree and possumhaw holly where I live . I combined a few movie , pick up up the colors a bit and apply a transverse - hatch brush stroke to the pic . I then decoupaged the picture onto my MDF substrate . The relief was mostly traditional mosaic methods . I did fuse some more components ( the berries and branches and some leave of absence ) to add to the tesserae .

It ’s always unmanageable to take a photograph of shabu and not get glare but still foot up the opalescence on the vaporing and plumage . I need to mold on that a turn . you could see my original pic under the open tessera . I trust you relish !

Lemon Tree

I was totally lost on this projection . I was n’t quite sure how to incorporate my pic into “ mixed media . ” I end up taking photo of some maize from my backyard garden , printing and cutting them out and gluing them onto a subdivision . I liked the two - dimensionality of the lemon cut - outs and the three - dimensionality of the offshoot . As I was shooting it , I cease up to the side of the outgrowth to give the lemons a squish show . Not certain if this is what you were seem for but I hope you care it . Canon EOS REBEL T1i , Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II Lens , 1/125 , f/8 , 50 mm , ISO 400

Trip Down the Drain

I took a picture of a violent storm drain pipe with a full - angle lens , printed the photo , then curl the paper so the side were a distich inches closer to me than the center . I placed the picture upside down and took a picture of it with a macro lens focalise on the center field . The deepness of field change in somewhat random ways since the curling was n’t reproducible , which makes the characterisation a picayune trippy . I changed the semblance and exposure a bit in Lightroom . The process create the “ miniaturization ” effect of a joust / shift lens , though this picture does n’t overwork that as much as others could . Panasonic GF1 with the 7 - 14 mm and 45 mm lenses . 1/50sec , f/2.8 , and ISO 250 for the last picture .

Paper Doll

This week ’s challenge was so much fun . I wanted this photo to see like a Sir Frederick Handley Page out of a ’ 60 ’s fashion magazine . I exact the exposure of my mannequin and then dressed her up like a paper doll . The turnout is made out of a recipe cartridge and Christmas wrapping paper and Christmas decoration . I then place the photo on colored craft newspaper . I did n’t mess much with the photo except for boosting the colors on iPhoto . photograph take with CanonT2i .

Driver

Well , this was a interesting challenge . I had my wife drive our car down a back road a few time while I stand on the side of the route click picture . I then took a few shots of the background without any cars run low through the shot . From there I print out a shot of the car and turn out that out . I had a weather sheet of this black styrofoam display panel stuff and realized it would work well for the road . I even scored the surface a niggling to make it await like cracks in the route . I also used strips of plain white newspaper for the center lines . I also used kleenex to mimic blow on the side of the route . I printed out the desktop of trees and meticulously cut out the area of the trees where the Dominicus was glint through . Then I put a few lights behind the shot and voila ! Pentax K - x , pentax smc f 50 mm , f6.7 , 1/3s , 100 iso .

Popocatépetl

I have this photo of the “ Popocatépetl ” volcano earlier this week , while shoot the breeze my girlfriend in Puebla , so I thought we could paint over it together for the challenge . We tried to give it a little Aztec elan to equal the subject , and ended up with this . The original photograph was taken with an old Pentax 200 mm lens , and the second one with a Canon 18 - 55 mm . Both on a Canon T2i .

Christmas Cards

We were making Christmas card game this weekend – gluing up photos we had take throughout the year onto red card game & envelopes . I depend at the table and suddenly realized that the mixed media mind that sidestep me all weekend was laying on the table right before me . I rearranged the pic , cards and scissors a little , and I had my pellet . Original photos taken with Nikon D80 and Canon S95 . Collage shot taken with iPhone 4 , edited in Picasa .
